Pivotting and Courses that lead to jobs
So where are the opportunities in Galway? And what does pivoting mean? It basically means changing career, and how to go about it, based on your situation. There are three elements, Geography, Industry and Skillset.
Galway has many industries, for today I’ll focus on the ICT ( Information CommunicationTechnology) scene( See Newsletter 16) Many of the Software companies have roles in Customer Service/Sales/Technical support/software Engineering.
If you are currently unemployed , in an “at risk” job or receiving COVID-19 payments, check out these free online courses. Particularly the Customer Service Course sounds interesting .It’s a QQI Level 5 Minor Award course will help you to develop your knowledge, skills and ability in delivering a strong, positive customer experience in your workplace. Go and enquire:)
It looks like the age old “going to the office” is rapidly changing to , actually, you can work from home or anywhere you like ( Beach? Co-Working Space? Coffee Shop?) - for some that’s exciting, for others this is a whole new world, with new jargon, new tools and much more. There are two skills courses developed by the Laois and Offaly Education board in collaboration with Growremote for remote teams I highly recommend you check for individuals and Managers.
Some companies offer certification after taking their courses, here are a few examples :
Salesforce Skills and free Voucher ( this one I find particularly interesting, as Salesforce is a widely used by multi-nationals)

Some jobs are not specific to Galway, and can be done from anywhere in Ireland. Shopify, Ebay, Amazon, Hubspot, Apple , Wayfair are all hiring remotely. This list however only scratches the surface. Best to visit the jobboard from Growremote who have their finger on the pulse on remote jobs in Ireland and also offer guidance and support on finding a remote jobs, courses and much more!
